Woman arrested for filing false police reports

POSTED June 10, 2011 8:24 p.m.

The Turlock woman who claimed she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted and then admitted it was a fabrication, was arrested Thursday after she recanted her recant.

Maria Jones, 32, was arrested Thursday at the Turlock Police Department on two charges of filing false police reports, said Turlock Police Sgt. Nino Amirfar.

Jones told detectives on Monday that she had been lured into a vacant home by two men and that she was sexually assaulted. She was found naked and tied up by a contractor who heard her screaming.

According to the police, the details of Jones’ story kept changing and when confronted with the inconsistencies, she admitted she made the story up to get attention. She said she undressed herself and tied herself up.

On Thursday Jones returned to the police department and said she wanted to tell the detective the truth. During this interview with the investigator, Jones said her story of the kidnapping and sexual assault was actually true and that her statement recanting the attack was a lie.

But when questioned again about the inconsistencies, she once again admitted the encounter was fabricated, and was in fact, lying about the admission being a lie.

Amirfar said Jones told the detective that she decided to change her statement again after reading in the newspaper that she could face a charge of filing a false police report.
