POSTED September 1, 2009 10:49 p.m.
The Drop the Drugs event in the parking lot of the Save Mart on Geer Road saw a steady turnout Tuesday as people dropped off their unused prescription and over the counter medications.
The event was a collaborative effort by multiple law enforcement and social agencies to help curb prescription drug abuse and promote environmentally-safe disposal methods.
Shortly after getting started, the event had collected more than 5,000 pills, said California Multi-jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team agent Jeff Godfrey.
Future Drop the Drug events are scheduled for other cities in Stanislaus County.
