POSTED October 18, 2011 8:27 p.m.

On a tough course, the Cal State Stanislaus men's golf team rebounded from Monday's conditions to finish strong with a third place showing Tuesday.

The Warriors shot a 295 in the third and final round to finish with a 917 overall score at the Lindsay Olive Wildcat Classic at Sevillano Links.
Host Chico State, golfstat's top-ranked team in the nation and No. 5 in the Golf Coaches' Association of America, won the event by 20 strokes with an 894 total (30-over par). Grand Canyon finished second at 50-over par, while ninth-ranked Cal State Stanislaus and No. 11 Western Washington tied for third at 53 over.
The Warriors were led by Trevor Blair's 228, 12-over par. Rob Damschen was 25th with a 231 and Gary Yoro shot 232 for 27th. In his first collegiate tournament, Jeff Neeley carded a 233 and Paul Smith rounded out the Stanislaus team with a 236.
Neeley is a junior college transfer appearing in his first tournament as a Warrior. Yoro was playing in a tourney for the first time this fall.
Chico's Kevin Souza, the 2011 national champion, won individual medalist honors with a four-over par 220.
"It was a much better day today, but we were just too far behind Chico State to catch up," Stanislaus coach John Cook said. "But I am pleased overall."
