Stanislaus soccer teams to play in conference tournaments

POSTED November 1, 2011 8:09 p.m.

Both the Cal State Stanislaus men’s and women’s soccer teams are set to participate in this year’s California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships at Warrior Stadium on the Stanislaus campus.

The eight-team tournament begins with the women’s session on Friday, when No. 2 Cal State L.A. (12-3-3, 10-3-3) takes on No. 3 and North Division Champion Chico State (10-5-3, 10-4-2) at 11 a.m. Top-seeded and South Division Champion UC San Diego (13-1-4, 12-1-3) and No. 4 Stanislaus (9-4-5, 8-4-4) will follow at 1:30 p.m.

The Stanislaus women are making their second straight tournament appearance after losing 2-1 to Cal State L.A. in double overtime last year. The Warriors are 4-3-2 at home this season and are 18-8-3 at Warrior Stadium.
The men’s session opens with No. 1 Chico State (12-3-3, 11-3-2) facing No. 3 Cal State Dominguez Hills (12-4-2, 10-4-2) at 4:30 p.m. Friday. The day’s final match will feature No. 2 and South Division Champion Cal State L.A. (12-1-5, 10-1-5) playing No. 4 Stanislaus (11-5-2, 9-5-2) at 7 p.m.
The Warrior men are making only their second CCAA tournament appearance after a five-year absence. Stanislaus played in the 2006 tournament at La Jolla and lost 2-1 to Cal State L.A. in the opening game. For the Warriors, playing on home turf will be an advantage as they are 8-1 at home this season and are 24-4-2 at Warrior Stadium since it opened in 2009.
The women’s championship contest is slated for 11:30 a.m. Sunday and the men's title will follow at 2 p.m.

The Sonoma State men and the San Francisco State women, who won the conference’s titles last season, did not qualify for this year’s tournament.

Cal State Stanislaus is hosting the CCAA Championships for the third consecutive year.

Both matches will be televised live on Comcast Hometown Network for Comcast cable subscribers. The broadcast feed also will be streamed live through Stretch Internet at
