POSTED November 15, 2011 10:45 p.m.

Cal State Stanislaus' top doubles team of Verena Preikschas and Katie Eng had quite a run last weekend at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic. The duo advanced all the way to the doubles championship match before losing to the No. 2 seeded team from Fresno State on Sunday.

Preikschas and Eng, unseeded for the tournament, beat Juliette Legendre and Emma Verberne of Nevada, 8-2, Sunday morning to advance to the championship match against Laura Pola and Olga Kirpicheva of Fresno State. The Bulldogs' No. 1 doubles team was the second seeded team in the event, which featured all Division I programs except for Cal State Stanislaus.

Cal State Stanislaus is the only Division II program involved in the tournament which featured San Jose State, Pacific, Portland State, Washington, Nevada, Cal Poly and host Fresno State.

In the finals, the Warrior seniors battled in their first tournament doubles championship match in their career, before the 8-4 decision.

Preikschas-Eng reached the finals with some impressive wins along the win. On Friday, they opened with an 8-6 win over Fresno State's Bianca Modoca and Tanya Murtagh. The Warriors then pulled off an upset over the No. 4 seeded team from the University of Washington (Natali Coronel and Julia Lukac), 8-4, which set-up the semifinal match against the Nevada pair.

On the singles side of the tournament, Preikschas also played in the semifinals on Sunday after completing her doubles play. The senior from Germany lost a tight match to Capucine Gregoire of Washington, 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-4. Along the way, Preikschas picked up wins over Division I opponents from Pacific, Fresno State and Nevada in earlier rounds.

On Saturday, Eng had advanced to the round of 16 in singles play of Flight B before falling to Sarah Irvin from the University of the Pacific, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-4. In the same flight, Kelsey Chrisco went as far as the consolation quarterfinal round until a 6-2, 6-2 setback to Anne Surdorf of Fresno State.
