Stanislaus falls to Grand Canyon

POSTED December 9, 2011 11:21 p.m.

Theresa Henderson continued to put up big numbers, but unfortunately the Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team fell to No. 17 Grand Canyon, 81-52, at the CCAA/PacWest Shootout in San Francisco on Friday.
Henderson took more than half of the team's shots and finished 11-for-26 for 24 points to set her personal career-best for the third time this year. It is also the second straight game she's scored career bests after netting 23 points last Saturday at SF State.
Cal State Stanislaus, however, falls to 2-4 overall and will face Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the tournament hosted by San Francisco State. NDNU handed Grand Canyon its first loss last week in Phoenix.
Grand Canyon, now 5-1, was led by Maylinn Smith with 17 points. Jallisa Bulter had 12 points and 13 rebounds as the 'Lopes shot 50.7 percent collectively for the game. Two other GCU players also scored in double figures.
Also contributing for the Warriors were Jameiz Terrell with 13 points and Lauren Godde scored eight points with eight rebounds. The Warriors, though, were out-rebounded 44-28 for the game. Stanislaus was 21-for-59 (35.6 percent) from the floor.
Henderson first set a career high with 21 points on Nov. 26 before scoring 23 last Saturday at San Francisco State. Friday's 24-point total is her third 20-point game in six contests. Henderson is now averaging 19.7 points per game.
Grand Canyon scored the game's first 18 points. Stanislaus' first bucket, by Terrell, came at 11:39 to make it 18-2. GCU's biggest lead in the first half was 29 points just before the half before taking a 45-18 score into intermission. Grand Canyon's biggest lead was 36 with about eight minutes left to play in the second half.
