Stadium opening sets attendance record

POSTED September 22, 2009 10:59 p.m.
Friday’s grand opening of Warrior Stadium was historic in more ways than one.
Supporters of Cal State Stanislaus didn’t just officially see the state-of-the-art facility but the attendance of 1,876 was also the second-highest in NCAA Division II history since the organization started keeping track of attendance figures in 1998.
On Aug. 28, 2007, Central Oklahoma set the single-match record of 2,004 against Dallas Baptist in Edmond, Okla. The previous No. 2 mark was 1,848 set by Washburn in Topeka, Kansas.
Stanislaus’ attendance came against UC San Diego, with the male Warriors winning and the female Warriors losing. The day also included tours of the fitness center, which, like Warrior Stadium, is a part of the $16.1-million Student Recreation Complex situated on the corner of Christoffersen Parkway and Geer Road.
Warrior Arena has a 2,100-seating capacity and boasts such features as a presidential suite, a scoreboard and stadium lights.

Stanislaus forward earns weekly men’s soccer honors
After a busy weekend, Cal State Stanislaus junior forward Victor Regalado earned the California Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Soccer Player of the Week award on Tuesday.
Regalado, of College Place, Wash., helped the Warriors to wins over UC San Diego and Cal State East Bay last week. He compiled six points during the span, including three goals.
He has nine goals entering Friday’s game at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Also on Tuesday, the men’s team was ranked ninth in the West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Cal State Los Angeles took the top spot.

Up and running
The Stanislaus cross country teams get back into action Saturday at 9 a.m., when the Warriors host the Stanislaus Invitational. By then, it’ll be two weeks since the Stanislaus runners last competed. Some runners to keep an eye on are Joey Nunes, Dawson Vorderbruegge and the Foldager twins, Denali and Rubye.
Other teams also expected to compete are Cal State Monterey Bay, Las Positas College, Fresno Pacific, Holy Names, UC Merced, Simpson, Pacific, Cal State Monterey Bay and Sonoma State.
