Demery named NSCAA All-American

POSTED December 13, 2011 9:29 p.m.

Sophomore forward Karenee Demery added another "first" to her resume when she was named First Team All American in women's soccer over the weekend. She is the first player in program history to receive this honor.

Demery earned her second National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America honor after leading the conference in points (43) and goals (16), and finishing second in assists (11) while leading Cal State Stanislaus to a CCAA title. She was also a first-team All-CCAA and All-West Region selection after her sensational sophomore season.

"This is a great honor for Karenee and her teammates. It is appropriate that she is being recognized as one of the best players in the country. She is very deserving," Cal State Stanislaus head coach Gabriel Bolton said.

Two other players from the CCAA also made the 2011 All-America list. Chico State senior defender Molly Downtain and UC San Diego senior forward Sarah McTigue were selected third-team All-Americans.

Last year, after setting Cal State Stanislaus records with 44 points and 19 goals, Demery became the school's first All-American in women's soccer when she was named to the Daktronics second team. However, on a vote of coaches, the NSCAA did not put her on the All-America lists.

In two seasons, Demery has amassed 87 points, 35 goals and 17 assists. The following is a list of postseason accolades she has received:
