Woman victim of armed carjacking

POSTED January 24, 2012 9:00 p.m.

A 55-year-old Turlock woman was carjacked at gunpoint Monday morning.

The woman was able to survive the violent encounter unharmed, according to the Turlock Police Department.

The woman was driving a Mercedes in the area of Del’s Lane and Georgetown Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Monday when she was hit from behind by a 90s model white Blazer, police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Webb said.

A heavy-set Hispanic man approached the woman and forced her door open. He held a handgun to her head and ordered her out of the vehicle, Webb said.

The suspect fled in the Mercedes and another suspect drove off in the Blazer.

A few hours later the Mercedes was spotted by Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force agents and a short pursuit was initiated. A passenger in the Mercedes jumped from the vehicle and was quickly apprehended, but the driver escaped.

The Mercedes was later found abandoned in Tracy.

The passenger, Daniel Estrada, 34, of Modesto was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.

Anyone with information about the carjacking is asked to contact Detective Justin Williamson at 668-5550 ext. 6631.
