As the entire country ramps up to watch “The Big Game” this Sunday the pizza industry is also hustling to get ready for what Turlock Domino’s owner Greg DeGrandis called “our Black Friday.”

This Sunday DeGrandis plans to sell 4,000 hot slices of pizza, about 80 to 90 percent more than a typical Sunday.

“We always look forward to Super Bowl Sunday with great anticipation. It is our busiest day of the year and we actually hire extra help in advance, order extra food to meet the increased demand,” said DeGrandis.

Nationwide Domino’s expects to sell 11 million slices or 1.2 million whole pizzas and Pizza Hut expects to sell two million pies.

While Domino’s and Pizza Hut focuses on delivery customers the hot spot for dine-in will undoubtedly be Jura’s in downtown Turlock. The locally owned business will feature an all-you-can-eat buffet with ribs, chicken, tri-tip, crab and shrimp and a raffle for a 47-inch flat-screen television, guitars and various other items.

Bartender Jessica Gardner will be working on Sunday, which is also her birthday.

“This is my eighth super bowl so I can’t take that day off,” she joked. (That… and her tips triple.)

Gardner said the phone at Jura’s never stops ringing on Super Sunday and the most popular item is hotwings.

“People started calling in to reserve orders on Thursday. Just a word of advice, you should probably call early in the morning or the wait will be an hour or more,” she said.

Long-time Jura’s customer Sheila Rocha praised the location as the best in town.

“Jura’s always throws the best Super Bowl parties. It is busy but it feels fun and relaxed,” she said.
