Gallo Center names new CEO

POSTED September 29, 2009 11:22 p.m.
The board of directors of the Gallo Center for the Arts announced today that Lynn Dickerson, former publisher and president of the Modesto Bee as well as vice president of operations for the McClatchy Company, has been named the new chief executive officer of the performing arts center.
“When it was confirmed that Dave would not be returning, the board discussed the possibility of conducting a national search for a new chief executive officer.  During that discussion, Lynn’s name was recommended as a candidate and that suggestion immediately made so much sense for so many reasons,” said Ron Emerzian, chairman of the Gallo Center for the Arts board of directors. “She was an ideal candidate as she has long been an ardent supporter of the arts, she is an advocate of improved quality of life and she knows the community so well. More importantly, especially in these tough economic times, she has extensive leadership, business, marketing and financial management experience.”
Dickerson has spent nearly 30 years in the newspaper industry with the last three years in Sacramento working in McClatchy’s corporate offices overseeing eleven of the company’s daily newspapers. She was the publisher and president of the Modesto Bee from 2000 to 2006.
“Dave Pier did an outstanding job of opening this wonderful venue,” said Dickerson. “Because of that, this is a great situation for me and I look forward to leading the Center to the next level as one of the nation’s premier performing arts facility.”
Dickerson was a member of the Gallo Center board of directors earlier this decade when funds were being raised prior to ground breaking and construction. She is set to begin her new job on Monday. In the coming months, she and her husband, Ron, will be relocating to Modesto.
“We have always felt Modesto is our town and we are really looking forward to returning and reconnecting with the community and our friends,” said Dickerson. “In so many ways, this new job is truly a labor of love.”
