Sixteen schools gathered at Joe Debely Stadium on a hot and sunny Friday afternoon for the Stanislaus County Track meet. Turlock and Pitman high were among those schools in attendance, competing against each other as well as the rest of the field in one of the first tests of the 2012 track and field season.

When it was all said and done Pitman came out ahead of its cross town rival, taking first place in 11 events. Turlock took four events.

For the Pride’s girls, Lauren Cariaso won the 100m, Kelsee Derr won the 100m hurdles, Erica Sickert won both the shot put and discus and Salina Flores took the javelin event. Cariaso, Derr, Kim Young, and Jasmine Roberson also took first in the 4x100 relay.

As for Pitman’s boys, Aaron Mayfield took the 100m, Isaac Gonzales took the 1600m, Ivan Delgado took the shot put, Sean Donnelly won the discus and Brent Nelle took the long jump.

“There’s definitely room for improvement, but right now I think it’s a good start,” Derr said.

Turlock’s Ty Hyer came in first for the 200m, Oscar Olide for the 300m hurdles, and Ron Barton in the pole vault. Jocelyn Montes was the lone lady Bulldog first place finisher in the 400m.

Pitman’s next meet will be March 17 at Dublin High for the Dublin Distance Fiesta. Turlock will also compete on the March 17 at the Brenda Invitational at California State University, Stanislaus.
