Shelter pets need Snuggles

The Stanislaus County library system is asking residents to pick up their crochet needles and stitch together some well needed creature comforts for the dogs and cats at the county animal shelter.
Operation Snuggles hopes to unite the pets at the Thomas W. Mayfield Regional Animal Services Center with blankets that will serve a dual purpose.
"Security blankets keep them warm and help them feel safe, said Michael Corcel, operations supervisor at the animal center. "They also appeal and look better to citizens than newspaper."
The Snuggles project was exceptionally successful last year and received several bags full of blankets, but this year they are in desperate need for blankets, as they have yet to receive any.
The library will host a project day to craft some blankets for the animal shelter from noon to 4 p.m. March 31 at the Waterford Library. People of all ages and experience level can participate.
Intact blankets can be dropped off at library locations in Ceres, Hughson, Denair, Modesto, Riverbank, Waterford and Salida until April 30.
