Pitman High’s boys and girls sailed to convincing victories over Turlock High on Thursday. The Pride hosted the Bulldogs in their first Central California Conference meet of the season as their boys won 112-64 and their girls won 108-75.

“Realistically, we knew they had a lot more swimmers than we do so we knew it was going to be a challenge,” Turlock’s girls head coach Sonja Raynes said.

The Lady Bulldogs only had three first place finishes on the day. Rebecca Groteguth claimed two of those first place finishes in the 100 free and the 50 free and Alexander Schoeffling took first in the diving competition. Despite their team loss, the Bulldogs were happy with their individual performances, which was their main focus heading into the competition.

“It was a good time for them to get some personal bests,” Raynes said. “We had several.”

Turlock’s boys had a similar game plan heading into Thursday as they faced a highly skilled Pride team. Pitman took first in every swimming event except the 50 free. Turlock’s Eric Carlos took first in the diving event.

“They’re definitely a strong group of swimmers,” Pitman’s boys head coach Kim Corgiat said of her team.

Simon Staley put in a pair of notable performance in the 100 and 200 free and Quinton Day impressed in the 100 fly with a time of 1:00:41.

“They had some really good swimmers,” Turlock’s boys head coach Erich Richter said. “Every one of my kids bettered their times and that’s what we were looking for.”

While the Bulldogs focus on personal improvement Pitman’s aim is directed at the CCC crown and sections.

“We’re looking to take as many kids as we can to sections, hopefully eight to 12,” Corgiat said.

As for league competition, Pitman plans on battling Merced High and Atwater High for the title.
