City begins budget process

POSTED April 13, 2012 10:19 p.m.

Budget season officially kicked off for the City of Turlock on Tuesday, when the City Council accepted parts of the Non-General Fund budget.
"These are items which shouldn't be too difficult tonight," City Manager Roy Wasden said.
The non-discretionary portions of the budget adopted Tuesday dealt largely with benefit assessment districts and grant funding. Turlock police, fire, engineering, and parks departments all presented status quo preliminary non-general fund budgets, changing from last year only where grants were discontinued.
The budget will be brought before council in four segments, with the following three to be discussed in workshop settings. The entire budget is expected to be adopted June 12, with May 8 and May 22 meetings scheduled to discuss the General Fund budget.
City staff will continue to looking for operational efficiencies through organizational realignment and consolidation of support services across the city, per the staff report. The city expects to meet its spending goals for the 2012-2013 budget.
