Turlock High’s girls soccer team remains unbeaten in the Central California Conference after defeating Buhach Colony High 3-1 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs (7-0-3 CCC) now continue their march towards what should be a championship matchup against rival Pitman High on May 1 as the season nears its end.

“We didn’t want to let down on our play today,” Turlock’s head coach Cathi Shali-Lopez said. “We struggled in the first half but the girls pulled it out in the end.”

Turlock got out to a sluggish start against the Thunder (0-8-1 CCC) as the recent two week spring break appeared to have affected the squad. In the 29th minute the Bulldogs finally got their legs back when Turlock’s leading scorer Aubrey Glidden (19 points) took an open shot from 12 yards out, placing the ball in the left hand corner of the goal just out of the Thunder’s reach. Buhach responded eight minutes later when Isabel Serafin found the net unassisted to tie the game up, sending the two teams into halftime 1-1.

Turlock found its intensity in the second half as the offensive trio of Glidden, Carissa Lopez and Lindsey Aldax kept the Thunder on their toes and away from the net. In the 50th minute Aldax scored a goal to take the lead before scoring another goal in the 70th minute with a Nicole Larson assist. Turlock finished the night with 19 shots on goal while Buhach finished with only one.

“We rely on every player to do their job and play their best,” Shali-Lopez said.

Turlock is now tied for first in the CCC with Pitman with five league games remaining in the season.

“Whenever Pitman and Turlock play they bring their game. We just need to play as a team and communicate to win the game,” Shali-Lopez said. “But we’re playing one game at a time.”

Turlock’s next game is against Merced High on Thursday.
