Milton Richards has contributed more than 20 years of his life to the field of athletics, so it’s no big surprise that he recently received one of the highest honors from where he gained most of his knowledge.
Richards, who currently serves as the Cal State Stanislaus athletics director, was inducted into the West Virginia University College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences Hall of Fame last week — joining fellow 2009 inductees David A. Dzewaltowski of Kansas and Judith Hayes of Houston.
“I am honored to be inducted and thank the selection committee for my election to the Hall of Fame at my alma mater,” Richards said.
Before this year, 99 alumni had been selected for the prestigious honor.
Richards earned his bachelor’s degree in recreation and master’s degree in sports management from WVU, where he later earned his doctorate in education. Before becoming the AD at Stanislaus in 1996, he served the same position at the University of Albany and Kansas State. He has also been the vice president of the California Collegiate Athletic Association — in which the Warriors are a participant — in 2001-02 and the president in 2002-03.
He has also been a member of the National Association of Collegiate Athletics since 1991, and Rotary International since 1999.
“The 2009 Hall of Fame inductees represent internationally recognized college professors, administrators and business leaders,” WVU dean Dana Brooks said. “The inductees have received numerous honors and awards for service contributions to their various professions. We are proud to add their names to the growing list of outstanding alumni.”
