Stanislaus women's soccer adds two D-I transfers

POSTED June 19, 2012 8:40 p.m.

Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer coach Gabriel Bolton announced the addition of two NCAA Division I transfers to the Warriors for the upcoming season.
Joining the squad will be Turlock native Donya Oliveira, an explosive attacking player from Cal State Fullerton, and goalkeeper Vanessa Baumann from the University of Montana.
"It is very exciting to have two players of this caliber joining our program and what we believe is already a terrific 2012 recruiting class," said Bolton. "Both still have three years of eligibility and bring some high level experience to our team."
Oliveira, who plays both in the midfielder and at forward, is known as a playmaker and has tremendous ball striking ability. In addition to her college playing experience, she brings an international flavor to the squad having played for the Portuguese National team in the prestigious Algarve Cup. She scored her first international goal with the U19 Portuguese National team in a match against Wales.
"Donya will really add a lot to our already potent attack," noted Bolton. "Her crossing and shooting abilities are both phenomenal and she has played the game at a very high level both in college and for her country."
Baumann, who played at the University of Montana for one season before transferring to West Valley Junior College, is a physically dominating goalkeeper from Newark. At 6-feet, she will be the tallest player on the team. In 2010 she was named Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and was a Coast Conference 1st Team selection.
"Vanessa is a tremendous athlete and I've been very impressed with her ability in the goal," said Bolton. "She has a fantastic presence in the goal and commands respect."
The Warriors begin practice on Aug. 13 and will open their season on Aug. 30 against Saint Martin's in Lacey, Wash.
