Imagine the Food exhibit offers culinary delights

A trip to the fair isn’t complete without sampling the various foods on offer.

This year, foodies will have a can’t-miss destination in Imagine the Food, a new exhibit focused on area edibles.

“We’re trying to really celebrate and highlight all the local foods we have here,” said fair spokesperson Adrenna Alkhas.

Housed in the former centennial exhibit building, Imagine the Food has its origins in the new “Imagine the Fun” rebranding for the Stanislaus County Fair. The concept asks attendees to consider the myriad entertainment opportunities available at the fair, from rides to animals to the old stalwart of food.

The Imagine the Food exhibit will be all food, all the time.

Local restaurants, including Bistro 234, will offer cooking demonstrations and sample their food at the Lowe’s kitchen. Local manufacturers and food processors will demo and sample as well.

And the local 7up distributor will host a large booth, demonstrating new products and offering tastes.

“They’re going to showcase the new technology that has been helping them with their products, and what new products they have,” Alkhas said.

Right alongside the professional chefs will be the amateur cooks. The Imagine the Food exhibit will be the new home of all of the fair’s food contests, from cake to pie and everything in between.

It all adds up to one of the focal points of the 2012 Stanislaus County Fair.

“That’s going to be a fun building to be in,” Alkhas said.
