Rain ends Stanislaus’ play at golf invitational

POSTED October 19, 2009 2:58 p.m.
Because of heavy rain and winds that made for unacceptable playing conditions, the Cal State Stanislaus men’s golfers’ stint at the InterWest Chico State Invitational was cut short Tuesday morning.
That meant only tiebreakers for the top four spots were played, with Sylvester Gama of Chico State defeating Holy Names’ Stephan Edman with a par on the second playoff hole to earn medalist honors and finished off the tournament at Butte Creek Country Club. Chico State shared the team title with Holy Names, with the Wildcats winning their own tournament for the first time since 2004.
Bryan Kiss was the only Stanislaus golfer to play Tuesday before the conditions became too messy, and he finished fourth.
The Warriors scored 590 to tie for fourth with Saint Martin’s in the 15-team field. Stanislaus saw Danny Hoff shoot a pair of 74s for a four-over 148 and tied for 12th with teammate Trevor Blair. Teddy Schrier and J.T. Cockerill were both 26th with 151 scores.
Stanislaus’ next match is the Sonoma State Men’s Invitational in Santa Rosa on Monday and Tuesday.
