Warrior women slay Jacks, Seawolves

POSTED September 25, 2012 5:38 p.m.

The women's soccer team of California State University, Stanislaus is currently riding a five game winning streak after a successful weekend against both Humboldt and Sonoma State.
The Warriors (7-1 overall, 4-1 CCAA) traveled to the Jacks' home field on Friday where, after trailing 1-0 in the first half, they scored two unanswered goals off of Karli Nestler's and Karenee Demery's cleats. Nestler was the first to find the net in the 25th minute, scoring her first goal of the year from 10 yards out on a defensive clear during a Warrior corner kick. Demery's go-ahead goal came in the 46th minute when she shot a floater over the goalies head from inside the six-yard box. The Warriors won 2-1.
Stanislaus was on the road again on Sunday against Sonoma State as it looked for its fourth straight road win. Demery improved on her earlier performance exponentially, notching the Warriors' first three goals in the 20th, 41st, and 49th minutes. Sunday's effort was Demery's second hat-trick this season and third all time as she continues her campaign to be recognized as the best player in the program's history. Bernie Bettencourt supplied Stanislaus' final goal of the day at 60:43 before Sonoma scored its lone, and inconsequential, goal in the 64th minute. The final score was 4-1.
Sunday's victory against Sonoma was by far the most impressive of the weekend not only because of the offensive effort but because the Warriors were able to knock off second-ranked Sonoma State. The Warriors look to continue their winning ways this Friday against Chico State.
