Postseason ends for Stanislaus men

POSTED November 13, 2012 10:07 p.m.

Two second half goals by the Clan ended the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer's magical season of 2012 as Simon Fraser edged the Warriors, 2-1, Saturday night in the second round of the NCAA Championship tournament.
The California Collegiate Athletic Association Champion Warriors completed the season with the program's best mark of 12-5-3.
Simon Fraser, ranked No. 2 in the latest NSCAA national poll, improved to 17-1-1.
Josue Barajas's goal in the 19th minute gave the Warriors an early 1-0 lead that held up for much of the night. That is until Simon Fraser, the top seed in the West, scored twice during a nine-minute span to advance.
For Cal State Stanislaus, the postseason winning streak ends at three. And its all-of-the-sudden prolific offense, which scored 10 goals in three previous matches, was held to the lone score.
For Simon Fraser, it will host Grand Canyon (which beat Cal State L.A. in penalty kicks Saturday night), defending champ Regis and Incarnate Word next weekend in the third and quarterfinal rounds. The matches are likely to be played at Cal State East Bay's Pioneer Stadium.
Clint Long picked up seven saves as SFU out-shot the Warriors 17-11 and held a slight 10-6 advantage in shots on goal.
The Warriors' offense were also without Daniel Kuczynski, who scored Thursday night's game-winner, until the final 27 minutes. Kuczynski was held out of the match and did not start due to an ankle injury suffered in the first round match against Notre Dame de Namur.
Barajas got Stanislaus on the board at 18:15 with a goal from 12 yards out. That score held up until 51:08 when the Clan finally strike the back of the net. Justin Wallace's shot ricochet off the left post to tie the match.
Simon Fraser had hit the cross bar twice and the post one another time prior to that score.
Then, at 60:21, Lucas Fernitto scored the eventual winner after collecting his own rebound from eight yards away.
