Members of Home Community Church's group Knit Wits put their hobby to good use on Tuesday, handing out 100 handmade scarves to the homeless at Denair Park.

The church group started as a women's circle, but soon transformed into the Knit Wits.

"We decided we wanted to learn how to knit; something that would bring generations together," said Knit Wit member Stacie Isley.

A total of 130 scarves were collected — 95 made by the Knit Wits and 35 donated by the Patterson Senior Club. The scarves were made in a variety of colors and sizes, to fit adults and children.

The remaining scarves will be donated to the We Care men's cold weather shelter, said Isley.

The group handed out the scarves during the church's weekly trip to Denair Park to feed the hungry.
