Calendar released for 2013 District Elections

With the inauguration of President Barack Obama, election season is finally over. Or is it? For those thinking about running for a local office, the Stanislaus County Clerk Recorder and Registrar of Voters just released a calendar of important dates for the Nov. 5 Consolidated District Election.
Two cities, 26 school districts and 29 special districts will hold their elections in November. Local seats open include those with:
• Stanislaus County Board of Education
• Chatom Union School District
• Denair Unified School District
• Keyes Union School District
• Turlock Unified School District
• Denair Community Service District
• Keyes Community Service District
• Turlock Irrigation District
• Denair Municipal Advisory Council
Prior to a candidate soliciting or accepting contributions for campaign purposes, he or she must file a Candidate Intention Statement with the Fair Political Practices Commission. Once that is done, the following dates are important for candidates:
• July 15 - Aug. 9: Candidate Nomination Period; candidates, including incumbents seeking re-election to the same office, must file nomination documents with the county election office during this period.
• July 31: FPPC Semiannual Campaign Statement Due
• Sept. 6: Special Vote By Mail Ballot Requests: First day the county elections official may process applications for special vote by mail ballot requests (military, overseas, 60-day voters).
• Sept. 26- Oct. 15: Sample Ballot Pamphlets: Pamphlets are mailed to each registered voter during this time.
• Oct. 7 - Oct. 29: Regular Vote By Mail Ballot: Mailing and processing period for Vote by Mail ballots. Ballots will be available at the county elections office.
• Oct. 20 - Nov. 4: Late Contributions and Independent Expenditures of $1,000 or More: Within 24 hours of the transaction, FPPC must be notified of these.
• Nov. 5: Election Day: Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Nov. 7 - Nov. 25: Canvass of the Vote
• Dec. 6: Elected and Appointed District Officials Take Office
