Turlock High put a cap on its regular season Friday night with a 48-36 win over rival Pitman High. The Bulldogs scored points in bunches, nine and 10 points at a time, and dictated the game’s tempo on their way to victory.

“We got out and jumped on them early, took the crowd out early on,” Turlock’s head coach Doug Cornfoot said.

Junior Kenny Fraser led the offensive effort with 16 points, but contributions from seniors DaShawn Holcombe and Darren Trainer as well as sophomore Devan Bains were integral in Turlock’s on court success. Fraser also had a big night under the boards where he picked nearly every offensive rebound up and dropped it in and stifled the Pride on defense.

Pitman continued its season’s struggles as it dropped its 12th consecutive game, but valiant efforts from sophomore Branson Garcia and junior Gurvinder Uppal gave the Pride good reason to look forward to next season.

Turlock’s third straight win and its league record of 7-3 was only good enough for second place in the Central California Conference, but with a playoff spot shored up the Bulldogs plan on making a run at the finals to ease the pain of missing out on back to back CCC titles.

“We got second place. We obviously want to win league each year, but coming in second is alright,” Cornfoot said. “We’re at the mercy at the section. We can play Sheldon, Pleasant Grove, Bella Vista, or Lodi. We just have to wait and see.”
