Warriors golf win Coyote Classic; Smith tied for second

With all five players in the top 23 of the leader board, the Cal State Stanislaus men's golf team captured a victory at the Coyote Classic hosted by Cal State San Bernardino.
The win is the Warriors' first this spring and their second victory for the 2012-13 season.
The Warriors topped the entire field with a low of 282 in round three to surpass host and previous leader Cal State San Bernardino with a 864 total score. The Coyotes finished third, 13 strokes behind Stanislaus, while Cal State Monterey Bay placed second with a 32-over 872.
Cal State Stanislaus was led by sophomore Paul Smith who's consistent play helped him to the second place showing— his highest collegiate finish. Smith's scores were 68-73-71 for 212, four shots behind winner Bobby Holden of Redlands who had a pair of 68s after an opening round of 72.
Two other Warriors finished in the top 15 with Jeff Neeley rebounding with a 70 in round three for a 219 total for 12th.Rob Damschen was 15th at 220.
Rounding out the Stanislaus scoring were Trevor Clayton and Andre Navarro, both with 223s for 23rd. Clayton made huge strides in two days as the freshman shot a 83 in Monday's round one but finished with a 68 third-round score.
Play was suspended due to darkness Monday night after a late start in the morning due to frost. The Warriors finished 30 of the 36 holes on Monday before play resumed Tuesday morning.
