Bring your Irish out this holiday with St. Patrick's Day events

The Van Diemans Band will bring the Irish to the Carnegie Arts Center's Family Night event on Friday.

It's that time of year again. The grass is green once again — and so is the town. Yes, St. Patrick's Day is here and with it the greening of food, beer and apparel.

Everyone is a little Irish on St. Patrick's Day and there are a variety of events for Valley residents of all ages to participate in this holiday weekend.


Celtic Family Night at the Carnegie

The Carnegie Arts Center will present a family concert of Celtic music and dance featuring the Van Diemans Band at 7 p.m. on Friday at 250 N. Broadway. Learn some basic dance steps or just tap your toes as the band plays classic Irish tunes. Carnegie Family Fridays are designed to provide creative fun for families with kids of all ages.

Family Friday events are free and open to the public, sponsored by off Center Thrift & Gift. For more information call the Carnegie at 632-5761.



Turlock Pub Crawl

The 4th Annual St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl to benefit the Salvation Army of Turlock will be held starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The event will include seven different routes through downtown Turlock bars this year, as well as a 'Quick Shot Stop' hosted by Bistro 234.

Tickets are $30 each and include an event T-shirt. Prizes will also be given to those who dress in the best green. Tickets are available at The Vintage Lounge, 110 W. Main St. and EXIT Realty, 600 E. Main St. Suite 300. For more information, call 815-3731.



Grizzly goes Irish

The  Grizzly Rock Cafe will honor St. Patrick's Day this weekend with traditional Irish fare. For a St. Paddy's Day breakfast, Grizzly Rock will have corned beef hash and eggs starting at 8 a.m. Sunday. For lunch and dinner, corned beef cabbage and red potatoes will be on the menu. Green beer and Irish coffee will also be on tap for a spirited holiday.

On Saturday, Grizzly will also have live music with Broken Trojan and No Hate, starting at 9 p.m.

Lucky Fest 2013

Downtown Modesto will be transformed into an all-Irish pub extravaganza for the second year in a row. Twenty-five custom pub booths will be built from the ground up just for the occasion as well as open doors at Fat Cat Music House and Lounge, Tresetti’s World Café, Serrano’s Coffee House, Tokyo Express and Barkin’ Dog.

This 21 and over event starts at 3 p.m. and shows continue until 1 a.m. Tickets are $10 each, or $20 for a “fast pass” to skip the entrance line.

Musical Fundraiser

The Stanislaus County Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will hold at St. Patrick's Day fundraising event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday at Cafe DEVA, 1202 J St., Modesto.

The night will include Irish singers, folk dancers and feature Bay Area performer Zach Padlo, who will be accompanied by Andy and Lynn Padlo. Tickets are $10 each. For more information, call 558-4555.
