Those looking for treasure in Gold Rush country are sure to find it this weekend, as Columbia State Park hosts its annual Victorian Easter Parade and Egg Hunt.

The historic state park that features a Gold Rush-era business district with preserved shops, restaurants and hotels will host a Victorian Easter celebration on Sunday.

"Two to three thousand come to the park on Easter every year," said Columbia Chamber of Commerce President Gary Neubert, "lots of families. "The parade is nice; lots of people really do dress up and give it a Victorian flare."

Registration begins at 11 a.m., and the parade starts at 12:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for fanciest Victorian hat, best dressed couple, lasses and lads, groups and pets.

Easter egg hunts for children will be held throughout the afternoon. The Small Fry Egg Search at 12 noon is for ages 3 to 5; and after the Easter Parade, the Junior Egg Poachers (ages 6 to 8) will try their luck at 1 p.m. The Great Egg Scramblers (ages 9 to 12) will be on the hunt at 1:30 pm. The child that finds the golden egg wins a prize. And be on the lookout for Thaddeus E. Hare (aka the Easter Bunny) walking around town, handing out fresh carrots to the kids.

Historic St. Anne's Church, the first brick church built in California, will hold an Easter Mass at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Columbia State Park is located three miles north of Sonora, off Highway 49. All events are free and sponsored by the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. For more information, call 536-1672 or visit columbiacalifornia.com.

Easter festivities will start early in Turlock, as the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 5059 hosts an egg hunt from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The event will include an egg hunt and games for children. Refreshments will also be provided. The VFW post is located at 1405 E. Linwood Ave., Turlock.

The Livingston United Methodist Church is also hosting an Easter egg hunt for children 12 and under after its 10:30 a.m. services on Sunday.  The church is also holding an Easter Sunrise Service at 6 a.m., with a pancake and ham breakfast to follow. Everyone is welcome. The church is located at 11695 Olive Ave., Livingston.
