POSTED June 27, 2009 5:37 p.m.
A 36-year-old Hispanic man is in critical condition following a solo vehicle crash early Friday morning.
Just before 2:30 a.m. Turlock police officers responded to the 4500 block of Crowell Road for a report of a possible accident. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle in a field next to the Light of Christ Church. The driver had a serious head wound and was unconscious. He was pinned into the vehicle and had to be extricated out by the Turlock Fire Department.
According to the police report, the man had been driving north on Crowell but didn’t make the turn at Paseo Belleza, where Crowell dead-ends. The driver continued straight and sheared off a light pole and struck a fire hydrant that caused water to flood the field.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing and it is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved.
