Name of business: Cloth and Quilts

Type of business: Fabric and quilt store

Location: 625 East Main St., Turlock

Contact info: 632-3225

Hours of operation: Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

History of business:  At Cloth and Quilts, customers shop for more than just fabric, patterns and supplies. They come for inspiration.

The store, with walls adorned with sewn quilts, serves as a springboard for creativity among shoppers.

“Cloth and Quilts is a friendly place for women to come and hangout,” said employee Susan Walker.  “It is a wonderful atmosphere to work on your hobby.”

Margaret Labno opened Cloth and Quilts in May 2001, along with her mother Cindy Kooistra and sister Debbie Sanders.

“My mom got us involved in sewing at a young age, volunteering as our sewing leader in 4-H,” said Labno.  “Our mom’s hobby for quilting eventually turned into a passion that we all shared. In May 2001 we decided to open up Cloth and Quilts.  We started sharing a 2,000 square foot space with another business. We now occupy the entire building offering over 8,000 square feet with two wonderful classrooms and lots of retail space.”

Over the years, Cloth and Quilts has garnered the reputation of carrying an eclectic mix of fabrics, which reflects different personalities for every shopper’s needs.

“The fabric that we have available is 100 percent cotton and is of higher quality than you might find in other stores,” said Labno.  “The fabric is made with quilters in mind so that their works of art can be used and passed on for generations.”

Also available at Cloth and Quilts are Bernina sewing machines.

“We also offer long arm quilting, giving our customers the opportunity to complete all of their projects making us ‘your one stop quilt shop,’” said Labno.

Business specialty: Cloth and Quilts offers several classes for people wanting to learn techniques, add to their skills or learn how to create a whole quilt.

“This store is different compared to other stores because the items that we carry are specifically for quilters,” said Labno.

Information on quilting classes and schedules are available online at www.clothandquilts.com.

“We pray that that we are able to continue providing an environment for quilters in our community to gather for classes, retreats and fellowships with other quilters that share the same passion,” said Labno.
