Charlie Alberti

POSTED April 16, 2013 4:59 p.m.

Charlie Alberti was enjoying his yard work on April 11 when his heart stopped and needed to rest. Charlie was born on August 15, 1918 in San Rafael to Swiss Italian parents Emil and Catherine Alberti. He lived in San Rafael, Los Banos, and Gustine on his parents’ 20 acre dairy ranch.  Charlie was a World War II Veteran and served with the 41st Infantry and Artillery Division where he was a scout for the Technician Corps Staff and was in charge of his platoon. He proudly shook hands with General MacArthur and cared for his riding horse.
He married the love of his life, Gloria Beffa, and they lived in Stevinson where they raised their three children. He worked for Carnation, Golden State Creamery, and retired from Foremost Creamery. They had a small dairy where Charlie raised show cattle. He also raised White York Pigs for the 4-H and FFA Clubs where he and Gloria were 4-H leaders, in Stevinson. Charlie and Gloria were sausage makers and made their own salami and sausage which was a yearly family and friends get together. His favorite holiday was Christmas where his house and yard would shine with Christmas lights and handmade wood statues. He enjoyed being in the 4th of July parades in Gustine with his homemade farm-on-wheels float. He loved working in his garden and growing flowers.
Charlie was a lively energetic and delightful man who loved life. He was short in stature. He was a member of the Swiss Club, VFW Post in Gustine.
Charlie is survived by his three children, Bobby Alberti, Richard Alberti, and Gloriann (Colin) Christian, his six grandchildren, one great-grandson, one great-granddaughter and another great-grandchild, both on the way, his brother, Emil Alberti, and his sister, Helen Scesa. Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gloria of 65 years, his parents, Emil and Catherine Albert, and his brother George, Henry, Alfred, and Paul Albert, and his sister, Esther Zanini.
A visitation will be held, April 17, at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A military funeral service will follow on April 18, also at Turlock Funeral Home, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations donations to be made to Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or www.alz.org, in memory of Charlie Alberti.
We’d  like to thank the staff at St. Francis Assisted Care for their time, patience, and care they gave our dad.
