Pitman girls, Turlock boys earn swim bragging rights

POSTED April 19, 2013 10:33 p.m.

Pitman High’s varsity girls swimming team defeated Turlock High 119-61 on Friday while the Bulldog boys defeated the Pride 92-84, in a cross-town and league matchup.

“It is great competitiveness between these two schools,” Turlock boys coach Erich Richter said. “All these guys grew up together swimming in rec league, it is a family atmosphere and I love it. That’s what I love about this town, it’s the best.”

Turlock’s Garrett Roof set a personal record of 22.9 on the 200 free against the Pitman Pride as the boys' swimming team defeated Pitman High 92-84 at home on Friday.

“I honestly did not expect to do what I did,” Roof said. “I felt amazing; felt great. I felt like I was moving fast.”

Pitman’s Haley Baldwin also had a good day in the water with first place finishes in both her events, the 100 meter freestyle and 100 meter breaststroke.

“This is my senior’s last dual meet. Just coming out, having fun, and getting some good times is all I could ask for,” Pitman girls coach Michaela Solarios said. “Turlock is always a good home town rival. We always have a lot of fun here.”

Next up for Pitman and Turlock are the Central California Conference meets April 25-27, which will be held at Pitman.
