A verbal argument between two Turlock men Saturday night devolved into gun violence that left one man with a head wound and another facing a charge of attempted murder.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Saturday two men were engaged in an argument in the area of N. First and Orchard streets. One man, identified by the Turlock Police Department as Jose Coria, 53, left the area in a vehicle as the other man walked away.

Coria soon returned to the area and once again got into an argument with the same man, Turlock Police Sgt. Stephen Webb said. The verbal dispute took a violent turn when Coria allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired one round at the man.

The bullet grazed the victim’s head, Webb said.

Coria got back into the passenger seat of the vehicle and left the area.

The Turlock Police Street Crimes Unit was arriving at the area just as Coria and his driver were leaving the area. The victim gave the officers a quick version of the event s that had just transpired and they took off after Coria.

Coria and his driver, identified as Linzey Pacheco, 20, were apprehended nearby. Coria was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide. Pacheco was arrested on suspicion of destroying evidence and possession of narcotics.

The victim, a white male adult, was treated at an area hospital for a non-life threatening injury, Webb said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the alleged attack or has additional information is asked to contact Detective Amy Beebe at 668-5550 ext. 6629. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 521-4636 and leave information anonymously. Callers may be eligible for a cash reward.
