History of business: Formerly known as the House of Java and House of Yogurt, the restaurant site in the Raley's shopping center was taken over by new owner Suzette Oliveira earlier this year. After several months of renovation, Oliveira reopened the store with a new name and healthier twist. Although the House of Java side of the restaurant remains virtually the same, the yogurt side has been completely switched to a smoothie operation.  Oliveira said that her decision to make the switch was based partly off competition and partly off her passion for juicing.

“I didn't have the intention of making changes,” said Oliveira. “My dilemma was to compete or get out."

The Green Grub opened officially on May 13, and Oliveira said she is already seeing repeat customers.

“People are bringing in friends and family and we’ve had an awesome response,” she said.

Business specialty: The Green Grub specializes in healthy organic smoothies, called “green drinks.” According to the restaurant's Facebook page, the drinks “are revitalizing, healthy, and restorative for the body and mind.” Along with the smoothies, the Green Grub also offers fresh options for breakfast, and salads and sandwiches for lunch and dinner.

The current menu offers a variety of 11 nutrition packed smoothies and four juices that are all catered towards boosting a healthy lifestyle. One of the restaurant's more popular smoothies is the Green Republic, a drink that offers a mixture of kale, pear, banana, coconut water and organic almond butter.

Oliveira is not just promoter of a juice-based lifestyle, but a participant as well.

“I’ve always been a fan of juicing and how it's made me feel,” she said. “Do what you love and the money will follow.”
