Seadogs win tri meet

POSTED July 5, 2013 10:35 p.m.

The Turlock Seadogs are now 6-0 after winning the tri meet last Saturday at Manteca with a score of 1,580.5. Manteca followed in second with 1,470.5, and Tracy placed third with 1,125.

“The kids are 6-0 so far because they want to get better and we are like a family; these kids push each other to want to better their times each and every day,” Seadogs coach Erich Richter said.

Out of 102 events across the board, and swimmers ranging in age from six to 18 years, the Seadogs notched 51 first place finishes.

“It was tight with two huge teams at a tri meet; there are so little points to pull away with. But I was very impressed, and we prevailed," Richter said.

Over the last four meets, the Seadogs have put up well over 6,235 points as a team.

Top finishers for the girls were: Emma Burke, with two first place finishes in the 50 back and breast and second in the 50 free; Sarah Phillips, with first place finishes in the 100 IM and 50 breast; and Sierra Yandell, who finished first in the 50 free and breast as well as second in the 100 IM.

For the boys, Stash Perry took home three first place finishes in the 100 IM and the 50 breast and back. Blake Phillips topped out with two first place finishes in the 200 free relay and the 50 free. CJ Cossey placed first in the 100 free, second in the 50 free and third in the 100 fly.

“I think we have one of the most talented coaching squads, we would not be here if the kids did not want to work hard either,” Richter said. “Just perseverance, we told the kids it had been close and every place helped us stay in front.”

Next for the Seadogs is a dual meet against Oakdale next Saturday at Turlock High with a time yet to be announced.

“Just do what we practice and push yourselves and try to do your best is all we can ask of them,” Richter said.
