Arena events promise speed, destruction and high-flying action

The summer heat persists, the bright lights and gunpowder from fireworks shows have faded, and ice cream sales continue to rise. It’s summertime, July to be exact, and for Valley residents that means one thing.

It’s time for the Stanislaus County Fair.

While the fair might invoke thoughts of corndogs, funnel cakes, rides, and free concerts for some, thousands of others immediately think of the Food Maxx Arena and the multiple motor sports and rodeo events that have become a Valley tradition.

There’s an old saying, “if it ain't broke don’t fix it,” and that seems to be the motto when it comes to the events held in the Food Maxx Arena. Back are fan favorites like the Destruction Derby, I and II, the Truck and Tractor Pulls, Mud Bog and Lawnmower races, and the high-flying Freestyle Moto Cross, among others.

“All the events are highly attended,” said Adrenna Alkhas, fair spokesperson. “We’re expecting high attendance the way ticket sales are going right now.”

With Tuff Trucks and Monster Trucks and the Truck and Tractor Pulls set to kick off the fair festivities, the following Quad Drags and Extreme Freestyle Motorcycles on July 14 and the Destruction Derby I on July 15 are sure to guarantee an exciting four days of motor sports madness for  spectators.

“People love those events,” Alkhas said.

Not everything at his year’s Fair will be routine, however. For the first time ever, riders from Metal Mulisha—the world renowned company and crew—will hit the dirt track and wow the crowd with death-defying tricks on two portable ramps and other obstacles for the Freestyle Moto Cross event on July 19.

“They’re bringing in good riders, people that have been doing it for a very long time,” Alkhas said. “It’s going to be a great event.”

Jimmy Fitzpatrick, Jeff Griffin, Julian Dusseau, Garrett Ahlf, Jimmy Smith, and Destin Cantrell are among the Metal Mulisha riders expected to compete.

“It’s going to be so much fun for these people to see these professional riders,” Alkhas said.

So what are you waiting for? Go out and grab tickets for any one of these events.
