Turlock jogger attacked at Donnelly Park

POSTED July 12, 2013 10:30 p.m.

A Turlock woman out for a morning run in Donnelly Park escaped a sexual assault by fighting off her attacker after being ambushed and dragged into a secluded area of the park.

The woman was able to flee the scene without serious injuries and her attacker was apprehended hours later in a nearby neighborhood.

The suspect is a 17-year-old boy, according to the Turlock Police Department. His name has not been released because he is a minor.

The assault occurred shortly after 5 a.m. July 5.

The 43-year-old woman told officers she was out for a run when she was grabbed from behind.

She said she was carried several feet to an isolated area of the park. The woman said the suspect held her down and forced himself on top of her and tried to kiss her on the mouth.

The woman fought against her attacker and was able to free herself from his grasp and run away.

The woman gave a detailed description of the attacker to the Turlock Police officers and they began an immediate search of the area, but the suspect was not located, said police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

Almost two hours later, Officer Tony Argueta made another search of the neighboring area and spotted an individual at 20th Century and Golden State boulevards that matched the description given by the woman, Lewis said.

The suspect was positively identified by the woman. He was booked into Juvenile Hall on charges of kidnapping and kidnapping with intent to commit rape, Lewis said.
