Frankie's 'Fair Food Adventures': Part One

When a Turlock Journal Facebook survey found that food was the main attraction to the Stanislaus County Fair for our readers, I knew this was my chance. I've always wanted to do a fair food version of the popular Food Network show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." So, on Tuesday, I hit the fair with an empty stomach and open mind.

There was no way I could hit every booth of deep fried, dipped and buttered treats, so I had to choose just a few. In my two-part video "Fair Food Adventures,"  I got a chance to try out some new menu items and satisfied my fair culinary dreams.

At Lucky Seven I learned that everything tastes better fried — especially hamburgers and peaches.

Of course, I had to have a fair staple so I chose a corn dog. But I didn't just settle for the traditional hotdog fried in cornmeal batter. Instead, I opted for a lobster corndog at Sharkey’s— and boy was I pleasantly surprised.

I topped off my adventure with a trip to New Orleans Cajun Cooking where I was met with Big Easy favorites like deep fried gator, jambalaya, and crawfish etoufee. Needless to say, I might be booking a flight to New Orleans soon.
