Walmart market just about ready

Tour the new Walmart Neighborhood Market

POSTED July 30, 2013 7:13 p.m.

Even though the Walmart Neighborhood Market hasn't opened its doors yet, the grocery store has been bustling with activity in preparation for the grand opening.

According to store manager Everton Lira, the store is “60 percent” done, and should be completely ready and stocked for customers in two weeks.

The new 60,000 square foot grocery store will come with a full pharmacy, a variety of local produce, devoted health, beauty and infant sections along with an assortment of grocery and house wares that can be found in a typical grocery store.

Lira said the new store will offer Turlock residents a budget-conscious option for grocery, while still guaranteeing that customers are provided with quality products.

“We’re in the business of saving people money,” said Lira. “They know Walmart is one destination where they can save money and live better.”

Lira said the new neighborhood market will also be beneficial to the students of California State University, Stanislaus, located a little over a mile away from the store.

“We’ve all seen the Top Ramen days,” said Lira.

Along with having filled in almost half of their stock, the store has also finished hiring 95 staff members.

“I couldn't be happier with the quality of work we’ve right here in the Central Valley,” said Lira.

In April of last year, the Planning Commission approved the neighborhood market to locate at the former site of Mervyn's, making the Turlock market the second one in Stanislaus County.

The new neighborhood market will make for the seventh Walmart location within 20 miles of Turlock.

The grand opening for the store will be at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 14. The store is located at 2480 Geer Rd.
