POSTED August 2, 2013 9:29 p.m.

After helping a stranded motorist change a flat tire, a Turlock man decided to rob the motorist of his cell phone, the Turlock Police Department reported.

The suspect, identified as Larry Reynolds, 30, was apprehended days after the alleged robbery when he was recognized by an officer on patrol.

Shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday, a 19-year-old man found himself stopped at a gas station in the 200 block of N. Golden State Boulevard with a flat tire.

Reynolds approached the man and proceeded to help him change the tire. Just as they were finishing, Reynolds allegedly pushed the 19-year-old down and stole his iPhone, according to the Turlock Police Department.

The victim was able to give the police a detailed description of the man and a search of the area was conducted, but the suspect was not found.

On Friday morning an officer responding to a call in the 700 block of Golden State Boulevard spotted a man that matched the description of the robbery suspect. The victim was called out to the scene and was able to positively identify Reynolds as the alleged robber.

Reynolds was booked into Stanislaus County Jail for robbery. The cell phone was not found.
