Modesto Junior College is ushering in the return of faculty driven art shows with an exhibit featuring the works of a dozen professors and lecturers.

The MJC Visual Arts Club is presenting “Faculty Reunited!” The exhibit opened Tuesday and will continue through Sept. 26.

This is MJC’s first faculty art show in four years and the theme represents a reunification of the Art Department’s faculty.  The exhibit showcases the work of MJC tenured faculty members Deborah Barr-Brayman, Paul Berger, Tom Duchscher, Joel Hagen, Haleh Niazmand, Richard Serros, Rob Stevenson, and adjunct faculty members Noah Wilson, Randy Kirksey, Todd McClintock, Tinna Savini and Linda Salmon.

“This talented group of artists has not only guided students in the classroom for years, but has also produced inspirational works of art in a wide range of styles such as expressionist, futurist, minimalist, and surrealist,” said Richard Serros, professor of art.

The content of the displayed works ranges from iconic to narratives to non-objectivity in a variety of mediums including printmaking, graphic art, oil paintings, watercolor paintings, acrylic paintings, as well as sculptures of metal, wood, paper, and ceramics.

A reception with the artists and members of the Visual Arts Club will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 12, at the Gallery. The public is invited to come learn what has inspired the faculty of MJC’s Art Department and what advice they have to pass on to their students. Refreshments will be served.

The Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. The Gallery is located on MJC’s east campus at 435 College Ave. Admission is free.
