The Hilmar High volleyball squad dominated visiting Trans Valley League opponent Riverbank High in Thursday’s home matchup, winning in straight sets.

In a day where the offense and defense clicked on all cylinders, there was no way any team was going to pose a threat for the ‘Jackets as they swept the Bruins, (25-6, 25-8 and 25-7).

“One of the things we have been focusing on is to not miss any serves. They did a great job without missing a serve today and I was very happy overall,” Hilmar head coach Patti Harris said. “We have a pretty powerful offense and defense.”

The ‘Jackets were on fire from the beginning, nearly perfect, after taking it to the Bruins in the first set. The next set started point for point, but then Hilmar was able to pull away with another win.

“The way the girls know how to focus and they are always working on something to make them better, and also since we have played so many games, they are just improving, doesn’t matter who we play. The girls stay focused and consistent,” Harris said. “They give it 110 percent at all times, and that is what they are getting better and better at.  This team can do it; they can go as far as they want to.”

Kill leader for Hilmar was Emily Baptista with 16. Haylee Pearce struck 30 assists and Baptista hit three aces along with two blocks. Val Ewing had 25 digs for the game.

Hilmar is now 3-0 in league, and  17-5 overall.

“From the beginning of the season to now, they are just improving. I tell them they need to be a machine, with everything running smoothly. One of the reasons is they have played many games together and they know each other, get along together and it means something in volleyball,” Harris said.

It will be a long road ahead for the ‘Jackets as they travel to the Oakdale varsity tourney this weekend, then return to play Orestimba at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
