Ray Kinzie passed away on October 19, 2013 at the age of 93. He was born in Lovewell, Kansas on January 9, 1920 to Lily and John Kinzie. As a young man he attended schools in Iowa and Minnesota, completing an agricultural program at the University of Minnesota. Ray is preceded in death by his wife Helen Carlson Kinzie. Ray and Helen had two children, William and Joanne. After moving to California, Ray completed barbering school and set up a barber shop, “Kinzie’s Golden Razor” on Lander Avenue. Following Helen’s passing, Ray married Florence Keesey, adding four children, Sandy, John, Diane, and Cathy. Ray and Florence developed an antique business which evolved into a silver plate matching service. There were years of picking and juicing pomegranates, making apple sauce and dried apples, and harvesting and cracking walnuts. He was known for his chocolate candy that family enjoyed at Christmas. Ray resided in Turlock, California for 60 years where he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Florence passed in February 2013. Ray was also preceded in death by brothers Robert Kinzie and Melvin Kinzie. Ray is survived by children: William Kinzie (Patricia), Joanne Chappell (Jeff), Sandy Dirkes (Randy), John Keesey (Valerie), Diane Bortan (James), and Cathy Black, sisters: Wilma Gasper and Nell Brown, 19 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Ray will be greatly missed, remembered for his love of family, work ethic, and sense of humor. There will be a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2013 at Frist Presbyterian Church, 2619 Berkeley Ave., Turlock. Burial will be private at Turlock Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to First Presbyterian Church are appreciated.
