Gavin Gaffaney became the third Bulldog this week to sign a letter of intent to play baseball at the next level when he agreed to join California State University, Stanislaus at the conclusion of his high school career.

“It’s surreal. It’s crazy to think, it’s always been my dream,” Gaffaney said.

The Turlock High senior committed to the Warriors this week after weighing his options which included Fresno State, Sacramento State, and San Jose State. While the allure of leaving town was enticing at first, Gaffaney’s familiarity with players on Stanislaus’ roster and the team’s interest in having him play immediately was all it took for him to make his decision.

“Stanislaus showed the most interest and they seemed like the best fit. I always wanted to get away, but at this time, it seems like it’s better for me,”  Gaffaney said.  “They recruited me to potentially be the starting third baseman next year. That was one of the main reasons I went there, to be able to contribute as a freshman.”

Gaffaney is now preparing for the upcoming baseball season as he hopes to end his time as a Bulldog with a bang and fulfill a childhood dream of playing at the collegiate level.

“Since I could hold a bat— I’ve been wanting to play college, play major league ball since I started, maybe six years old,” Gaffaney said. “It’s crazy to say, but I’m probably going to have the most fun I’ve had playing baseball in the last four years. Knowing that I have a home now and that I actually get to have fun and just play, not have to worry about it.”
