A Turlock woman is facing child endangerment charges after authorities discovered she had left her two children home alone overnight.

The 11-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy did not come to any harm and were taken into custody by Child Protective Services, the Turlock Police Department reported.

According to the police department Karina Vargas, 33, of Turlock left the two kids alone for the night on Tuesday at their residence in the 900 block of Pedras Road.

The incident was reported to the Turlock Police Department the following day by CPS, who were in turn notified by the 11-year-old’s school when she brought her brother in. The 5-year-old does not attend the school and this raised an alarm with school officials

The 11-year-old told school officials she brought her brother in because she didn’t want to leave him alone at the house.

Vargas was contacted and picked the 5-year-old up at the school and left with him before CPS arrived, according to the police report. She was located about an hour later at a Turlock restaurant and taken into custody, Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis said.

Vargas remains in jail custody in lieu of a $50,000 bail, according to jail records.
