We Care gets $10,000 donation

POSTED November 25, 2013 3:20 p.m.

The We Care Program, which just opened its cold-weather shelter for men Nov. 15, received a hefty donation to keep its services running.

Sierra Health Foundation donated $10,000 to the shelter to help provide warm beds and hot meals to the 49 homeless men seeking refuge from the streets.

We Care’s Interim Executive Director Barbara Olave said the donation will help fund access to counseling services, a computer lab, life skills training and recovery classes, health and wellness seminars, bus passes to essential services, and referrals to housing programs for which the men may be qualified.

“We are honored that Sierra Health has chosen to partner with us in providing shelter services for homeless men in our community,” Olave said. “Helping the men to meet their core needs is often the first step in their transition to leading healthier lives and reaching their full potential.”
