The Fruitcake Queen

The Fruitcake Queen

POSTED December 16, 2009 12:19 a.m.
In my lifetime I have known
Some wondrous people, young and grown
Who had a knack, a special beat
So knowing them was quite a treat.

But in Turlock I did find
A woman of a special kind
Incredible as it may seem
In Turlock lives the Fruitcake Queen.

All year long, east coast or west
She spreads great cheer; she is the best.
She cooks, takes students under wing
And teaches little ones to sing.

But as Thanksgiving comes along
She starts to sing a different song.
Fairy dust may be the cause
But those watching drop their jaws.

From her kitchen day and night
Come her fruitcakes, done just right.
No one knows how many cakes
Our fruitcake queen each year makes.

A million some have said in awe,
But that may be an adding flaw.
A thousand some have loudly touted
They were watching and they counted.

An unassuming blond in choir
A friend that many can admire
The Fruitcake Queen is quite a dame
Betty Bradbury is her name.
