A family makes holiday crafts at the 2008 Breakfast with Santa event.

POSTED December 16, 2009 12:21 a.m.
Santa is coming to Turlock early this year to have breakfast with good boys and girls from all over town. He will make a stop at Covenant Village for the Teen Advisory Council’s annual Breakfast with Santa on Saturday.
The event, which is co-hosted by the Turlock Recreation Division, will give kids a chance to make last-minute requests of Saint Nick. Breakfast tickets include letter writing for the kids, and a picture on Santa’s lap.
Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards Teen Advisory Council events and youth scholarships. Members of the Teen Advisory Council do much of the planning for the event.
The Teen Advisory Council started in 2001 as a way to get Turlock teens more involved in their community. Every year the council plans and coordinates high school and junior high dances, and sports tournaments. Toni Deguire, a former member of Teen Advisory Council, said that being a member helped her to realize her leadership potential and become more involved.
“TAC has definitely helped me get out of my shell,” Deguire said.
Breakfast with Santa is a way for the group to raise funds for other activities and gain experience with coordinating community events. Karen Packwood, recreation senior supervisor, said that last year’s event sold out.
“People are very excited about it. We expect a lot of repeat visitors from last year,” Packwood said.
This year’s breakfast will be held at Covenant Village. There will be two seatings, one at 8 a.m. and one at 9:45 a.m. While kids are waiting for breakfast, they can write a letter to Santa or do a small Christmas craft. There will also be holiday music and photos with Santa.
Tickets for the Breakfast with Santa are available in the recreation office at 301 Starr Ave. Breakfast includes a photo with Santa. Tickets cost $12 for children 12 years old and under, and $18 for adults and youth over age 13.
