Harold DeWayne Sapp, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away the morning of December 4, 2013 at the age of 83.
Harold is survived by his wife Patty of 64 years, 2 sons: Gary and Jim (wife Shelly), 6 grandchildren: Brian (fiancée Cassie), Stephanie, Alexander, Erik (wife Missy), Brady, all of Eugene, Jessie (fiancé Mark) of Arizona, and 8 great-grandchildren: Joshua, Kody, Blake, Gavin, Jeremiah, Jalen, Drayson, and Haven.
Harold graduated from Livingston High School in Livingston California in 1949 and married his high school sweetheart Patty Jean Barry on November 27, 1949. He then began a 35 year career with the United States Department of Agriculture as a meat/food inspector.
Harold most of all enjoyed his family. He was an avid sports and Duck Fan for 55 years. He was an accomplished high school athlete and basketball was his passion; he played city league basketball well into his 40’s. He was involved in coaching youth in both basketball and baseball for the Eugene Boys Athletic Association and later Kidsports. Harold was a great billiards player and played 5 times a week consistently. He also loved to fish and caught a large salmon on a fishing trip for his 83rd birthday. He enjoyed square dancing, was a long time member of the Oregon Horseshoe Pitchers Association, and Thousand Trails/Naco Camping Association. Harold and Patty spent over 20 years enjoying their retirement by traveling in their motorhome.
Harold was a genuinely likeable man and had a gift of conversation; he could strike up a conversation with anyone young or old. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents Dewey and Ethel Sapp, brother Leroy Sapp, and sister Margie Bristow.
A private service was held at West Lawn Memorial Park with immediate family on December 7, 2013. A Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 2pm at Daneland Mobile Home Park 1199 N. Terry St. Eugene, OR 97402.
