Stanislaus men dominate Pacifica in 51-point win

POSTED December 23, 2013 5:43 p.m.

Every Warrior who dressed to play logged minutes and scored as the Cal State Stanislaus men's basketball team heads into the holiday break with an easy 104-53 win over Pacifica Friday night.
Marcus Bell scored 21 points with ease in 22 minutes of play by shooting 10-for-12 to lead Stanislaus as the Warriors improved to 6-2 after the non-conference game against the sports college based in Anaheim.
Four other Warriors scored in double-digits as the non-starters all played significant minutes. Alek Carlson scored 15 points off the bench with three 3-pointers and Joey Bennett also had three treys and finished with 11 points. Starters Chris Read had 14 points in 18 minutes (6 for 6) and Shey Mataele netted 10 points.
Sam Marcus had six of the team's 28 assists on the night and Rob Walters had five assists and team-best 14 rebounds. Walters almost out-rebounded Pacifica by himself as the much-taller Warriors won that category 51-18.
Cal State Stanislaus dominated in every area of the game including shooting 65.2 percent for the game after hitting on 70.6 percent of the shots in the first half for a 58-24 lead.
Pacifica (3-13), which made 12 three-pointers in its 65-60 loss at Cal State L.A. on Tuesday, was only 6 for 24 beyond the arch against the Warriors. Jonathan Earl led Pacifica with 26 points. Pacifica College also lost to Humboldt State by just two points, 80-78, on Nov. 23.
The Warriors last scored more than 100 points a year ago — also against Pacifica — when they beat the Gladiators, 116-58, in Ontario.
Cal State Stanislaus resume play on Jan. 3, on the road, when it travels to La Jolla to face UC San Diego. The Warriors will be back home at Fitzpatrick Arena, where they are now 4-0 this season, on Jan. 10.
